Laytime Introduction and Objectives
The objective of the Laytime program is to provide owners, charterers and operators with the means to prepare laytime statements rapidly and accurately. The first version of Laytime was released early in 1989 and it is now widely used in many countries for both the dry cargo and tanker trades. The program does not pretend to replace shipping expertise. The users must know their charter-parties and the terms of particular fixtures. However, the program takes away the time consuming tedium of the calculation and the presentation of the claim. The user specifies the charter-party terms and the statement of facts, indicating if time is counting or not. The program does the rest, recognising when the vessel goes on demurrage or when laytime expires if calculating despatch. The cost of this program is soon recouped by the savings in the time of skilled personnel and by improving the accuracy of calculations.
